The Potty Caddy Review

We have just started the very beginnings of potty learning here at the Derrick house. Sara Rose has a little potty that she occasionally (very occasionally) sits on. I was so excited to be given the opportunity to review The Potty Caddy.

Talk about a way to make potty learning fun! The Potty Caddy includes a 32- page full color book, four toddler-size "magazines" for bathroom reading—including Vanity Fairy, BQ (Babies Quarterly), Rolling Stroller, and Sports Animated, 100 toilet targets, reward stickers, a potty chart, a helpful brochure for parents (written by a pediatrician), and, best of all, a child's very own roll of toilet paper on a refillable holder

It is super cute. And Sara Rose seemed to really get a kick out of it and the fact that it was all her's for sitting on the potty like a big girl.

It is available from Amazon.com and normally is priced at $14.95 but if you purchase right now, it is on sale! Thanks to Parent Reviewers for the chance to review this great potty learning tool!

The Widow Cliqout by Tilar J. Mazzeo Book Review

This is an interesting book about the story of the visionary young widow who built a champagne empire, showed the world how to live with style, and emerged a legend.

I will admit that this started off as a slow read for me, and I had to start and restart it a few times. But it turned out to be very interesting. It is the story of Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin. Her life story is just amazing! She was one of the world's first great businesswomen and one of the richest women of her time.

If you are interested in purchasing this book (and I strongly recommend it), head on over to Harper Collins right now.

Parents Critter Conga Review

My mom and I were at Costco a few weeks ago and were checking out the toys. One of the toys that we absolutely loved was the Critter Conga percussion set. It is from the toy line of Parents Magazine.

Well imagine my surprise when we opened up the latest package from Team Mom and it was the exact toy that I had been looking at!

Photobucket

It is fantastic! It includes a leopard conga drum (which also doubles as the storage container for it all!) with a tambourine lid, a antelope slide whistle, snake drumsticks, elephant whistle, bird water whistle, monkey noise maker, giraffe maracas, and a crocodile cabasa and clacker.

Sara LOVES it because it is bright and colorful and makes noise. We love it because she gets to have a good time and improve her motor skills and memory at the same time!

Baby Einstein Review

Baby Einstein is celebrating 10 years of discovery!

For the past 10 years Baby Einstein has been sharing the beauty and wonder of the world to millions of babies and parents. In celebration of their anniversary, they are introducing two special editions of their most popular DVDs- Baby Mozart and Baby Beethoven.

Also coming in 2009 will be a whole new line of World Music products celebrating music and culture from all 7 continents.

We love Baby Einstein. I remember the first DVD that we showed Sara. Hubby and I just sat there watching her watch it. It was so cool!

I was lucky enough to receive the 10th Anniversary Baby Mozart DVD, Baby Einstein Touch and Feel Baby Animals Board Book and Lullaby Classics CD for review. We love all of it. The Baby Mozart DVD is great, as all of them are. And Sara is in love with the board book. She flips through it and feel all the animals and tells me about most of them.

Here are some helpful DVD viewing tips to be able to get the most out of the videos!

Talk! Talk! Talk!
From the moment we say that first hello to our new baby, we begin developing our little one’s language. So, when you’re watching a Baby Einstein DVD, you don’t have to be quiet. This is a chance to create little stories.

For example, if you see mechanical toys on the DVD, describe the action to your baby—“see the seals go UP the ladder. Now they’re sliding DOWN and around-- very fast.” If your baby starts “talking” back to your sounds, praise, cuddle, and imitate your baby to keep the conversation going. Even if you feel self-conscious about talking to a 6 month old, just stay the course. Your baby is probably listening and may show you with a smile, nod, or squeal, the many different ways they understand your language.

Bring it to Life
If children or puppets on the DVD are jumping or dancing, you can hold your little one and dance along to show baby how it feels. You can also play infant sized musical instruments to accompany the DVD Orchestra. Or, try using puppets or baby’s favorite stuffed animals to mimic the action in the DVD. You may get giggles from your little one. Babies usually want to do what they see and you can make that happen.

Make it Personal
Try making connections between what happens on screen with what happens in baby’s life. If you have a DVD that contains sign language, try some of the simpler signs with your baby. If you see how the puppets always do silly stuff, bring a puppet to mealtime to help you serve the food or provide additional encouragement to complete the meal.

Make it a Family Affair
Consider using DVD time as a way to interact with the whole family. If baby has an older sibling(s) around you can invite them watch the DVD with you. Encourage your older child to point out the names of the animals, say the colors, or even make animal sounds. They will probably love playing with baby and will be excited about showing off how much they know!

Thanks to Mom Central for the opportunity to help celebrate Baby Einstein's 10th Anniversary.

Liesel's Art Studio- Review and Giveaway

I love Etsy. There are all sorts of amazing artists and crafters that I have discovered there. One of my recent finds is Liesel's Art Studio. She has an great shop with all sorts of beautiful, affordable art in it.

This is the print that she sent me, and it is absolutely beautiful.

The quality is spectacular, I actually thought that it was an original when I opened up the package.

About the process:
I drew the Elephant in by hand with pencil and ink on cold press (textured) watercolor paper, and colored him with watercolor. I then scanned him into the computer and printed him out on 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" Premium Presentation Paper. Its a nice heavy weight paper that prints out beautifully. This one comes in a nice cellophane cover to protect it, with a certificate of authenticity that includes the title, number in the edition (this is one of fifty), date and artist signature.

What a great gift for someone this holiday season! Head over to her shop right now to find the perfect gift!

Guess what! Liesel is kind enough to offer a giveaway to our readers! One lucky winner will win a set of fruit magnets.

Shape-its- review and giveaway

I am so excited to tell you about this product! Shape-its is a company that makes products designed to allow kids to play with their food! The company was created by Michelle Welch, who came up with the idea one Saturday morning while she was free-handing pancake shapes on the griddle for her kids. She realized there had to be an easier way and Shape-its was born!

I received the holiday kit to review and it is just fun! I made little pancake angels and stars with my kit. I think I actually might make star shaped cakes tomorrow with them. (I will say that I may have gotten more of a kick out of them than Sara Rose, but she is only 19 months old, LOL)

You can purchase the single food forms or a "play with your food" kit. Each kit contains 2-3 Shape-Its™ food forms, 2 decorating gels, 2 decorating sprinkles and 4 food-safe markers that come in a clear, re-usable vinyl bag. Each food form is made from a durable air-craft aluminum that is safe to use from oven to freezer and will not rust in the dishwasher. They are also equipped with two folding handles for safe use and easy storage. Use Shape-Its food forms for shaping pancakes, pizza, cookies, cakes, brownies, marshmallow treats, gelatin, ice cream and more!

If you are looking for a unique holiday gift, then look no further than Shape-its.

The folks over at Shape-its have been kind enough to offer a giveaway to our readers!
