Review: AVG Internet Security 2012

THE REVIEW:  I recently was given the opportunity to be involved in the Parent Reviewers AVG Internet Security 2012 Blog Tour.  I was given AVG Internet Security 2012 Software to install on my computer for free for 1 year.

The installation was really easy.  I started the AVG  installer and accepted the end user license agreement.  I entered my license key and selected quick install.  And then it started my download.

The software is really user friendly.  I double-click on the AVG link at the bottom of my computer and it shows me this overview.

I can see that everything is active and that my scheduled scans are running properly and I can run extra scans if I want to.  One of the most amazing things (to me at least) is something called AVG Smart Scanning Technology.  This means that all subsequent scans are faster- this is achieved by identifying and not scanning files that are known to be safe.  Scans use minimal resources when users are on a computer and then kicks it into high gear when users are away from the computer.

Another piece of technology that I LOVE is the AVG Accelerator.  Most of the other security products that  I have used slowed down my computer.  AVG Internet Security 2012 actually SPEEDS IT UP!  It accelerates the download of binary files and minimizes the hangs and delays while watching videos on YouTube. AVG Accelerator is enabled as a default setting when you switch on.

Some of the other features that I think are really neat and help to keep your computer really safe are:

  • AVG System Tools- This monitors your computer and lets you turn off auto-run applications at Windows start-up.  This is something else that will really speed up your computer.
  • AVG Identity Protection-  This is like super identity protection.  It will keep you safe from online threats, and it is also smart enough that it can see when there are potential problems and stop those as well.
  • AVG Email Scanner- This checks your email attachments and links looking for threats so that they don't arrive in your inbox and you open them by mistake.
  • AVG Resident Shield- This is an extra layer of protection that looks at files for threats as they are being copied or saved and will keep you from opening infected files.

And of course it has the normal stuff you would look for in security software: Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, Anti-Spyware.
As well as much much more: AVG Resident Shield, AVG Protective Cloud Technology, AVG Community Protection Network, Auto-Fix, AVG Anti-Spam, AVG Online Shield, LinkScanner Search-Shield, LinkScanner Surf-Shield, AVG Social Networking Protection, AVG Support, AVG Advisor
