Blogging for Blood Cancer Event from August 11-18

The first annual “Blogging for Blood Cancer” event will take place from August 11-18, 2008. This first time event will bring bloggers from across the United States together to raise awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and its mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

The event is being hosted by Goodies for Mom in conjunction with the Friends of Heroes (FOH) National Light The Night Team of which Sara Rose Tutus is a sponsor. They are asking that bloggers post on their blogs throughout the event about the importance of the LLS mission, share your personal stories of those you have come to know who have been affected by blood cancer, or share some of the stories you read here and on the FOH site during the week that have touched your hearts.

Under the Loupe- Annette Piper Jewelry

One of the social networks that I belong to is Skwiggazine. There is a blog-ring that I am part of and each week, I will be posting about a different member.

I always love seeing who the next person in the blog ring is and I was so excited when I found out it was Annette Piper. When I first started making my tutus, I joined a LOT of different social networking places. And it turns out that Annette is also part of quite a few of them. It would always make me so happy (and let me know that it really is a great group if she is a part of it) to find her when I joined. Well, I guess she really found me. I would get a comment from her, with a lovely welcome each time.

Annette makes gorgeous jewelry. She also has an Etsy shop.

I am in love with this piece.

If I have a secret admirer or anything and you want to know what to get me, this is it. Seriously, this is one of my favorite pieces.

So if you want to see beautiful jewelry and get to read about a wonderful person, head on over to Annette's blog. I am sure you will enjoy!

Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake Review and Giveaway

So I have a secret- I don't like ballet. Sort of absurd since I make tutus, right? Well, it's not entirely that I don't like ballet. I mean I find the movement and costumes beautiful. And I bet I would love the story if I knew what the heck the story was, but when I see a ballet, it just does not come together for me.

I was pretty excited to get to review Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake. I figured if it is a DVD for kids then it must be more user friendly than other ballet videos I have seen.

Well, let me tell you it is really neat. First and foremost, I now know the story of Swan Lake. I have seen the ballet before and honestly, did not know what the story was (and for those of you wondering, I am actually a smart person, ballet is just hard for me to understand). Second, it is just really fun. Third, my 14 month old daughter sat through the ENTIRE THING and seemed to actually like it (she clapped when the girls on screen clapped-it was super cute).

Prima Princessa, an animated fairy ballerina, magically transports a group of little girls to see the Paris Opera Ballet performs select segments of Swan Lake. In between acts, the children return home to learn simple ballet steps which are playfully shown mixed into colorful montages of toys, animals, children and young dancers from the School of American Ballet.

I have to admit that the fact that this DVD was produced by two stay-at-home moms with no prior movie-making experience intrigued me even more. Mary Kate Mellow and Stephanie Troeller were inspired by their children's love of dance. They could not find ballet movies that were appropriate for their children, so they made their own. Amazing, huh?

They also have a blog where you can read about their journey.

For more information please visit www.PrimaPrincessa.com
To purchase 'Prima Princessa Presents Swan Lake'" click here

And now for the best part- one lucky reader is going to get a copy of the DVD absolutely free. Pretty cool, huh? All you need to do is to head over to their website, take a look around and come on back here and leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about it. As always, you can get an extra entry by signing up for my feed:. I will pick a winner on August 11.

I Did Not Make the Cut!

First, I know this is about my tutus, but I felt like it was more appropriate over here since it almost felt review-like (at least to me).
Second, I do realize that this is just me having a pity party, but darn it, I deserve it! So if you are not in the mood for some whining, you probably want to stop reading now.
Third, I do realize that I am unabashedly (am I using that word right?...must checked and I think I am) asking for comments and really, I am okay with that. So here goes.

I am disappointed. Really disappointed. Really really really disappointed. I applied for a local Arts and Craft Fair called Crafty Bastards it is sponsored by the Washington City Paper. And I just got an email that I did not in.

Apparently I am not crafty enough. I know that there were over 400 applicants and only 95 spaces. But darn it, I really wanted to get in (insert whiny voice). I read over how they wanted the application to go and I sent them super cute pictures of tutus and kids in tutus. And I make really neat tutus, they are fun and different (at least I think they are different) than ballerina tutus (not that there is anything wrong with ballerina tutus, I just make different ones).

From the website:
What kinds of crafts will I find?
Reconstructed clothing, punk rock baby clothes, handcrafted jewelry, whimsical and demented plush toys, handspun yarn, screen-printing, pottery, furniture, avant-garde art and so much more!

I totally fall into this category (stomping my feet in frustration). I know that I have done other ones, and there are people who actually ask me to do their fairs, but I wanted to do this one (stomp, stomp). It is juried which means that it is judged by my peers. And that was really important to me. Sigh...

Anyway, I had to get my frustration and disappointment out and now I was hoping for some love. If you have a Sara Rose Tutu and you love it or even if you just love to look at them online, leave me a comment and let me know please. Heck, even if you don't love them but want to make me feel better, leave me a comment and make something up.

Your Little Sweet Pea- A Chic Children and Baby Boutique

I have found the cutest chair ever. Seriously, I am in love with it. I think I need to come up with a reason that Sara needs to have it (this is how I justify purchases to myself).

It is a child-sized stuffed chair with matching ottoman.
Where did I find this, you ask? At Your Little Sweet Pea. It is an adorable children's and baby boutique. In addition to having amazing stuff, all of the products are priced 10% off MSRP.

How about this great bedroom set for your little girl?

I know, you are looking at it and thinking that you could never design a room to look like that. At least that is what I am thinking about when I look at it. Well, you don't have to be able to do it yourself. In addition to the cute stuff you can buy, Amy also offer design services. And you know it is going to be spectacular because she is a professional interior designer.

Stay tuned because we are going to have a giveaway from Your Little Sweet Pea next week!

Gloves in a Bottle- Moisture the way nature intended

I am not a big fan of lotions, sometimes they smell weird, sometimes they feel weird on my skin. It is a problem for me since my hands are dry but I just deal with it.

So when I was given the opportunity to review Gloves in a Bottle lately, I took it, but was a little nervous about it. I mean, what if I didn't like it? So when I received the box with the lotion it is, I must admit that I put off opening it up for a day or so.

I finally opened it up and took a little sniff (because if I did not like the smell, I was not even going to put it on)...very faint pleasant scent...so far so good. I then put a drop onto my hand to feel the consistency and see if I had a reaction or not...nice and creamy...still going well. I then rubbed it around on my hands. Oh my gosh! I love it. I honestly can not believe that I even like it, much less love it! I have been using it a few times a day for a couple days now and it just makes my hands feel so nice and soft.

Gloves in a Bottle is a skin shielding lotion. This means that the lotion bonds to the outer layers of your skin to protect it from harmful irritants and to keep your own moisture in. For best results, you are supposed to apply the lotion every 4 hours. I have to admit that I am not apply it that often but am still seeing the results.

Gloves in a bottle keeps the good stuff in and the bad stuff out.

Do you ChaCha? (search engine)

Have you all heard of ChaCha?
It is a is a search engine that pays human guides to answer questions for users. This is a technique known as social searching.

As a guide you earn $0.15 per search that you complete.
I signed up as a guide a few weeks ago and have really had a chance to play around with it this weekend. So far the search take between a few seconds and a few minutes. And I have made $15. And the best part is that I can do it whenever, so when I am making tutus or writing blog posts, I can also be searching. Let me tell you that anything I can do to make money while I am doing something else...well I love it! As a busy mommy, I am always multitasking and this is just another way that I do it!

Head over to ChaCha if you are interested in being a guide. I would appreciate it if you used me as the referral. My email address is stacyandgreg@hotmail.com. Also leave me a comment and let me know what you think ChaCha and if you signed up.

Also stay tuned, tomorrow I have contest winners to announce as well as a new giveaway!

Greenies- The Original Smart Treat

Do you have a cat or a dog? If you do you need to try Greenies. Greenies are products for dogs and cats that taste great and are healthy for them. They have vitamins and minerals and help keep their teeth clean and their breath fresh! They started off with a dental chew for dogs and now make dental treats for cats as well.

We tried the Feline Greenies Dental Treats and our cats LOVED them! There are 5 different flavors so they never get bored: Oven Roasted Chicken, Ocean Fish, Savory Salmon, Tempting Tuna, and Succulent Beef.

I also got a Greenies Dental Chew for my sister's dog. Apparently it is his favorite treat! I had no idea but was so excited when I saw how much he loved it. They make 5 distinct sizes and textures of the Dental Chew, so there is a perfect size for every dog.

Head on over to their website to try a free sample today!

Cherished Dreams- Quilts and Blog

One of the social networks that I belong to is Skwiggazine. There is a blog-ring that I am part of and each week, I will be posting about a different member.

I know, I know I just posted about the blog-ring. But I was looking back and realized that I completely missed a week and that means that I completely missed talking about a person. Karen- I am so sorry! So let me tell you a bit about Karen from Cherished Dreams. Karen makes quilts. Absolutely gorgeous quilts. Here is a quilt that she made for the Hoffman Challenge quilt project.

Karen, we wish you the best!

In addition to the quilts, she also has a blog post about redoing the main floor of her house with bamboo flooring. Amazingly enough I was just talking to Hubby about how we needed to fix up our house. I will have to look into bamboo flooring. Thanks Karen!
